Event Description: On Sept. 12, you can enjoy lunch and an afternoon of golf that helps CAFNR students at the same time by participating in the 17th annual Tiger Ag Classic Golf Tournament. That evening, stay for the Ag Classic Steak Fry held at Cosmo Park, which starts immediately following the tournament. The event is sponsored by the Ag Alumni Association and will be held at the L.A. Nickell Golf Course, Columbia. The event is open to anyone. The format is a four-person scramble with 18-hole shotgun start. The fee is $90 per golfer if a reservation is made before Aug. 29. Event Description: What makes a stem cell a stem cell? Are there different kinds of stem cells? What jobs do they do for you, all the time? How are they being used in medicine, now and in the future? What are the risk and benefits of stem cell therapies? Answers to these questions and more will be provided by Dr D. Cornelison, Division of Biological Sciences, at the first Saturday Morning Science (SMS) talk of the semester. SMS is a science lecture series geared to the general public. All ages are welcome. No science background is necessary. Bagels, donuts, juice and coffee are provided a half-hour before the talk.

Event Description: Jake Barralet, Ph.D., from McGill University will present a seminar entitled, "Low Temperature Bioceramics." Barralet's work is centered around the exploitation of inorganic materials for tissue repair. He specializes in Bioceramics in particular low temperature syntheses of nanocrystalline and amorphous inorganics, cold setting materials (cements) and precipitation to create new or improved materials or devices for tissue repair or delivery. Work on tissue engineering has focused on new ways to build 3D structures using microscaffolds as building blocks for macroscale constructs. In addition, calcium cross linked alginate has been evaluated as a tissue engineering scaffold. He has been awarded a Canada Research Chair in Osteoinductive Biomaterials and works on this topic as well as extending prior work to include biomineralization.

Try fresh-roasted chestnuts; take a tour of the research farm; sample Missouri cheeses, wines and specialty products. Live music, cooking demos, children's activities and beautiful scenery.
