Beauvais, France
The College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources study abroad program in France is a three-week immersion into French culture, history, rural development and agricultural systems.
You'll also learn how European Union membership and policies have affected agriculture in France.
You will visit a range of farms, companies, organizations and sites during the program. Highlights include visits to Massey Fergusson, various dairy farms, the European Parliament and the biggest vegetable market in Europe accessible by boat.
In addition to France, you will visit Belgium and the Netherlands. These visits will help you gain a better understanding of Europe and European agriculture.
Location
The program is based in Beauvais, France, at the Institut Supérieur Agricole de Beauvais (ISAB).
Beauvais, a city of 59,000 people, is located about 54 miles north of Paris in the Picardy region of Northern France. ISAB is located about 15 minutes from the city center of Beauvais.
The Picardy Region is famous for its cathedrals, its role in World War I and its castles (chateaux). It is also known for its dairy and beef cattle.
Courses
You will earn six credits of International Agriculture Experience 2190 upon successful completion of the program. The six credits of Ag 2190 may be allocated for CAFNR students as follows:
- 3 credits of Communications or Humanities
- 3 credits of Ag Elective
You will attend lectures and also make numerous site visits as part of the academic program. In addition, the program offers intensive French language classes. All courses are taught in English.
Requirements
- 2.0 GPA
- Good academic standing.
- Open to all MU students.
Accommodations
Housing is provided in ISAB dormitories and is similar to dorm living at Mizzou. When the program travels to Belgium and the Netherlands, you will stay in hotels and/or hostels.
The majority of the meals will be provided at the campus cafeteria, and some meals will be taken in restaurants while visiting different sites and countries.
While on the ISAB campus, you will have access to computer labs with Internet access. During the program, ISAB students work as guides to help the U.S. students make the most of their experience. Students from Iowa State, Nebraska, UC Davis and Penn State also participate in this summer program.
